Stopped by during a recent trip to Philly because I heard Jim is another staple in the city and I always try different cheesesteak spots when I'm in town. Came on a Monday there was no line, I was able to order immediately. I had a cheesesteak with onions, wiz and mushrooms. I love that they cut onions into big pieces since they add a nice crunchy texture element. The meat wasn't really seasoned which I thought was strange but they didn't skimp on portion and I can't be mad at that. The guys working the grill were great and answered any questions we had. I didn't walk upstairs but I was told they had a substantial amount of seating. The main floor had about 6-8 tables and they also have an atm on site(cash only). Jim's was decent but nowhere near Dalessandros which to me is the standard but still a solid sandwich

I went here many years ago and going through pics I found a few pics from here When in Philly you gotta do a cheesesteak My friend and I were at independence hall and talking about going to get one but I knew I didn't want to do Geno or pats it's too touristy trap and I wanted a good place locals eat A lady overheard and told us about this place We got there parking many blocks away which came to bite us since it started pouring lol We arrive all drenched but the smell was great The entrance is pretty tight not tons space ordering and they guys were cool it was easy and didn't take long we got one with peppers and cheese not wiz and took it upstairs which has a good amount seating The taste was great it was messy for sure but I wish the bun was a little toasty since it's so messy to hold up but I need to see how wiz cheese would taste like

Overall: 9/10 Food: 10/10 Service: 7/10 Value: 7/10 Jim's is the real deal when it comes to Philly CS! The meat is amazing and, honestly, the whiz makes the sandwich hit differently so I highly recommend that you opt in for it. I got my CS with provolone, whiz, sweet peppers, hot peppers, spicy oil, and no drip. Perfection!

Institutional and nostalgic it was great to be back recently! Looks similar outside and very clean and spacious inside. Upstairs tables offer views above south street. The steaks are fantastic. Wiz Wit all the time. Loved it.

I've been going to Jim's for years and it's still one of the best in the city. They pack their steaks with chopped meat which is much appreciated. I've opted for American, provolone and whiz in the past and even though I usually like sliced cheese, the whiz helps balance the amount of meat out here so I'd definitely consider going with it. I usually add mushrooms and fried onions as well. My favorite part of this spot is the ambiance. There is something about the chrome building and watching the cook do his thing as you wait that makes everything feel like a full experience. Is it the absolute best steak in the city? Probably not, but I never leave disappointed.
